The 9th House

Fortune & spirituality

The ninth house is dharma bhava, the house of righteousness, and also bhagya bhava, the house of fortune. It governs religion, philosophy, the teacher and the father in many texts, long journeys, pilgrimage, higher learning and the grace that comes unearned. It is the strongest of the trines, the most fortunate house in the chart after the Lagna, and its lord joined with the lord of the tenth makes the yoga the texts call Dharma-Karma Adhipati, which the site's yoga reckoning looks for. Jupiter is its natural significator. The tradition reads the ninth as the house of what a person is given, as the third is of what a person makes. Below are the facts the site's tables hold for the ninth house: what it signifies and its class among the houses, the reading of each planet placed in it, and the reading of its lord when placed in each of the twelve houses.

What the 9th house is

Houses are counted from the Lagna, the sign rising at birth, which is the 1st; in the whole-sign reckoning the birth chart uses, the 9th house is the 9th sign from it. The site's table of significations gives the 9th house as fortune & spirituality. It is a trikona, one of the three trines (the 1st, 5th and 9th), the most fortunate houses.

In transit, counted from the Moon sign rather than the Lagna, the classical gochara table the site uses counts the 9th house favourable for Jupiter and Venus.

Each planet in the 9th house

The readings the site's birth report gives for each graha placed in the 9th house. Each is one statement about one placement: the sign, the planet's strength and the rest of the chart decide how much of it a life shows.

The Sun. The Sun in the 9th house blesses you with strong dharma, fortune and a respected father or guru; you are principled, fortunate and drawn to higher truth.

The lord of the 9th in each house

The lord of a house is the lord of the sign on it, so it changes with the Lagna. Wherever that lord stands, it links the 9th house's matters to that house. The birth report reads it so:

In the 1st. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 1st links fortune, dharma and father with self and body — it blesses your identity with fortune, dharma and a principled, lucky nature.

In the 2nd. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 2nd links fortune, dharma and father with wealth, family and speech — it brings wealth and family prosperity through fortune and dharma.

In the 3rd. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 3rd links fortune, dharma and father with courage, siblings and communication — it turns fortune into courageous, righteous effort and communication.

In the 4th. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 4th links fortune, dharma and father with home, mother and comfort — it blesses home, mother and comfort with luck and dharma.

In the 5th. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 5th links fortune, dharma and father with children, intellect and romance — it grants fortunate intellect, virtuous children and creative wisdom.

In the 6th. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 6th links fortune, dharma and father with health, enemies and service — it can challenge fortune through service or disputes, yet helps overcome obstacles dutifully.

In the 7th. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 7th links fortune, dharma and father with marriage and partnership — it blesses marriage and partnership with fortune and shared values.

In the 8th. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 8th links fortune, dharma and father with longevity, transformation and secrets — it brings sudden fortune or interest in mysticism, with some risk to the father.

In the 9th. The lord of the 9th house placed in the 9th (its own house) links fortune, dharma and father strongly here — it strongly strengthens fortune, dharma, higher learning and divine grace.
