The 12th House

The twelfth house is vyaya bhava, the house of loss or expenditure, the last of the twelve. It governs expenses, losses, sleep, distant lands and life abroad, hospitals, retreats, charity, the bed and, at its highest, moksha, final release. It is one of the three dusthanas, the difficult houses, yet the tradition reads it also as the house of letting go, of giving and of spiritual practice, and many people who settle abroad have a strong twelfth. Saturn is its natural significator, with Ketu often named for its spiritual side. Saturn's passage through the twelfth from the Moon begins Sade Sati.
