Saturn in Pisces to Aries 2027: Sade Sati by Sign

Saturn (Shani) entered Pisces on 29 March 2025 and is still there. It is the slowest of the planets the tradition watches, spending about two and a half years in each sign, so its change of sign is the one people plan around, above all those in or near Sade Sati. That change is now close: Saturn enters Aries at 05:28 IST on Thursday 3 June 2027. As with most of Saturn's moves it is not a clean step. Saturn turns back into Pisces on 20 October 2027 and settles in Aries only on 23 February 2028.

Every date and time here was worked out with the ephemeris that draws the site's charts (sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, times in IST). Almanacs differ from each other by up to an hour or so on the moment a slow planet changes sign: Drik Panchang prints 06:23 AM on 3 June 2027 for the entry into Aries and 06:05 AM on 20 October 2027 for the return. The days are the same in both.

So the months from now to June 2027 are the last long stretch of Saturn in Pisces, with a short second visit in the winter of 2027–28.

Saturn in Pisces and in Aries

Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, and the site's table of natural relationships counts Jupiter as neutral to Saturn, so Saturn in Pisces stands in a neutral sign. Aries is a different matter: it is the sign of Saturn's fall (debilitation) in the site's table of dignities, the opposite of its exaltation in Libra. The move in June 2027 is therefore a move into Saturn's weakest sign. A debilitated planet is not simply bad; whether its fall is cancelled, and how strong it is overall, are worked out chart by chart, which the site's birth report does by Shadbala.

Varahamihira's readings of a birth with Saturn in these signs show the contrast. For Saturn in Pisces he describes a trusted servant of those in power who becomes a leading figure in the town, with good wealth, a good spouse and children, and a peaceful end of life (Brihat Jataka 18.19). For Saturn in Aries he gives a hard reading: a restless, wandering life, a taste for show, few friends, and judgement that needs care (Brihat Jataka 18.17; both tr. N. Chidambaram Iyer). These describe birth charts, not transits, but they show what the tradition hears in each placing.

Sade Sati and Dhaiya

Sade Sati is Saturn's passage through the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from your Moon sign. It is counted by Saturn's actual stays, returns included, which is why one Sade Sati runs from seven to nine years rather than exactly seven and a half. Shani Dhaiya is Saturn's stay in the 4th sign from the Moon (Kantaka) or the 8th (Ashtama). The dates below are the site's, read off Saturn's stays exactly as the birth report reads them.

Aquarius Moon: Sade Sati since Saturn entered Capricorn on 24 January 2020, now in its last, setting phase. It pauses while Saturn is in Aries from 3 June to 20 October 2027, resumes, and ends for good on 23 February 2028.

Practical observances

The tradition's observances for Saturn are among the best known. Saturday is its day. Its mantra is "Om Shanaye Namah", and its beej mantra "Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaischaraya Namaha", traditionally recited 108 times on Saturday evenings. The site's reference lists the customary gifts as black sesame, mustard oil or iron on Saturdays, and the service of the poor and of labourers; its puja is a mustard-oil lamp lit under a peepal tree with the Shani mantra, and the worship of Lord Hanuman. Discipline, honesty and patience are Saturn's own remedies.
