Jupiter Enters Leo on 31 October 2026

Jupiter (Guru) has spent the summer and autumn of 2026 in Cancer, the sign of its exaltation. On Saturday 31 October 2026 at 12:02 IST it crosses into Leo. It will not stay long on this first visit: Jupiter turns retrograde in Leo on 13 December 2026, slips back into Cancer on 25 January 2027, and only returns to Leo for good on 26 June 2027, where it stays until 26 November 2027.

Every date and time in this article was worked out with the same ephemeris that draws the site's charts (sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, times for New Delhi in IST). Almanacs differ from one another by minutes to an hour on the moment a slow planet changes sign; Drik Panchang, for example, prints 12:50 PM for this ingress. The day is the same in both.

The dates at a glance

  • 31 October 2026, 12:02 IST — Jupiter enters Leo.
  • 13 December 2026, 06:26 IST — Jupiter turns retrograde, in Leo.
  • 25 January 2027, 01:31 IST — retrograde, Jupiter goes back into Cancer.
  • 13 April 2027, 07:41 IST — Jupiter turns direct, in Cancer.
  • 26 June 2027, 05:19 IST — Jupiter enters Leo again.
  • 26 November 2027, 18:44 IST — Jupiter moves on into Virgo.

So the first Leo stay lasts under three months. The themes it opens in your chart get a first sketch now and a fuller working-out from late June 2027.

Jupiter in Leo in the classical picture

Leo is ruled by the Sun, whom Jupiter counts as a friend, so the site's table of dignities places Jupiter in Leo in a friend's sign: comfortable, though not as strong as in Cancer. The move is therefore a step down from exaltation, not a fall.

For a person born while Jupiter stands in Leo, Varahamihira describes intelligence and influence, a good spouse and children, wealth and comfort, and beyond these command over others (Brihat Jataka 18.13, tr. N. Chidambaram Iyer). That is a reading of a birth chart rather than of a transit, but it gives a sense of what the tradition associates with Jupiter in this sign: dignity, generosity and a natural wish to lead.

Two companions share Leo with Jupiter for a while. Ketu is already there, until the nodes change signs on 5 December 2026, and Mars joins on 12 November 2026. A crowded Leo is a reminder that no transit acts alone; the result in any chart depends on the whole picture.

Your Moon sign

Transits in Vedic astrology are read from the Moon sign: the sign the Moon occupied at your birth. If you do not know yours, a free birth chart gives it. Below, the house is counted from your Moon sign, your own sign being the 1st. Whether a house is favourable follows the classical gochara table the site uses, which for Jupiter names the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th. This is general guidance for everyone who shares a Moon sign. Your running dasha and the natal chart decide how much of it you notice.

Aries Moon (Mesha). Jupiter is in your 5th house, a favourable house for Jupiter. The 5th is the house of children, study and creative work, so this is a good season to learn, teach, or put energy into a project you care about; speculation still calls for judgement.

Taurus Moon (Vrishabha). Jupiter is in your 4th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Attention turns to home, property and family roots. Keep plans for the house steady rather than ambitious, and look after rest and digestion.

Gemini Moon (Mithuna). Jupiter is in your 3rd house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Effort and initiative are asked of you more than luck is offered. Writing, short journeys and work with siblings or neighbours go best when you take them step by step.

Cancer Moon (Karka). Jupiter is in your 2nd house, a favourable house for Jupiter, after a long stay in your own sign. The 2nd governs savings, speech and family, and a steady, accumulating phase suits it: consolidate income and speak with care.

Leo Moon (Simha). Jupiter is in your 1st house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Visibility rises and others notice you, but Jupiter over the Moon itself is not counted among its good placements. Lead with patience, look after your health and avoid overcommitting.

Virgo Moon (Kanya). Jupiter is in your 12th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Expenses, travel and retreat are the themes. Charity, quiet study and keeping an eye on spending serve you better than new outlays.

Libra Moon (Tula). Jupiter is in your 11th house, a favourable house for Jupiter. The 11th is the house of gains and friendships; networks bring opportunity and long-held aims can move forward.

Scorpio Moon (Vrishchika). Jupiter is in your 10th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Work and reputation take focus, with more responsibility than reward at first. Pace yourself and let results build slowly.

Sagittarius Moon (Dhanu). Jupiter is in your 9th house, a favourable house for Jupiter, and it is your own sign's lord. Fortune, teachers, higher learning and pilgrimage are supported; advice from elders is worth seeking.

Capricorn Moon (Makara). Jupiter is in your 8th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. A quieter, inward phase: take care with shared money and loans, and do not overexert yourself.

Aquarius Moon (Kumbha). Jupiter is in your 7th house, a favourable house for Jupiter. Partnerships, marriage talks and agreements with clients are favoured; collaboration is the theme.

Pisces Moon (Meena). Jupiter is in your 6th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Daily work and health routines need attention. Manage debts and expenses prudently, and steady habits will carry you through.

Practical observances

The tradition's observances for Jupiter are simple. Thursday is its day. Its mantra is "Om Gurave Namah", and its beej mantra "Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namaha", traditionally recited 108 times on Thursday mornings. The customary gifts are turmeric, gram dal or yellow cloth on Thursdays, and the customary attitude is respect for teachers and elders. The yellow sapphire belongs to Jupiter, but whether you should wear it depends on your own chart: the site's remedies page decides that from the planet's strength and lordship in your chart, never from a transit alone.

Use the tools

  • See where Jupiter is in your own chart, and how strong it is by Shadbala, with a free birth chart.
  • Read the daily, monthly and yearly horoscope for your Moon sign; the yearly reading follows Jupiter through each of its stays.
  • Check the day's tithi and nakshatra in the panchang, or find a good day for a new venture with the muhurta finder. Jupiter's own setting in the Sun's light is one of the periods the muhurta finder closes to marriage and griha pravesh.

General guidance for a Moon sign, not a personal reading. Individual results depend on the whole birth chart and the running dasha.
