Jupiter Returns to Cancer: 25 January to 26 June 2027
October 24, 2026
Jupiter (Guru) entered Leo on 31 October 2026, but it does not stay. Turning retrograde in December, it moves back into Cancer, the sign of its exaltation, on Monday 25 January 2027 at 01:31 IST, and remains there until 26 June 2027. For five more months, then, Jupiter is back where the tradition considers it strongest, before it settles in Leo for the second half of 2027.
The dates
Times are from the site's ephemeris for New Delhi, in IST.
- 13 December 2026, 06:26 IST — Jupiter turns retrograde in Leo.
- 25 January 2027, 01:31 IST — Jupiter re-enters Cancer. (Drik Panchang: 12:52 AM the same night.)
- 13 April 2027, 07:41 IST — Jupiter turns direct, in Cancer.
- 26 June 2027, 05:19 IST — Jupiter returns to Leo.
- 26 November 2027, 18:44 IST — Jupiter enters Virgo.
Because the entry falls in the small hours, a calendar may list it under 24 or 25 January depending on how it prints times after midnight; the moment is the same.
Exalted Jupiter
In the site's table of dignities Jupiter is exalted in Cancer. The rule text the site uses for a birth chart with Jupiter there reads: "wisdom, generosity and good counsel are at their fullest; teachers and elders favour you and your judgement is trusted." Varahamihira, describing a person born with Jupiter in Cancer, speaks of intelligence and influence, a good spouse and children, wealth and fine possessions, and a comfortable life (Brihat Jataka 18.13, tr. N. Chidambaram Iyer).
A transit is not a birth, and an exalted planet does not help everyone equally: what Jupiter brings depends on which house of your chart it moves through, which is why the Moon-sign notes below matter more than the dignity alone.
Two neighbours share Cancer with Jupiter in these months. Ketu has been there since 5 December 2026. Mars, retrograde, joins between 10 March and 26 April 2027, and Cancer is the sign of Mars's fall; during those weeks the classical advice for Mars, patience and no quarrels, applies alongside Jupiter's.
Your Moon sign
Count from your Moon sign, the sign the Moon occupied at your birth, your own sign being the 1st; a free birth chart gives it. The classical gochara table names the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th as Jupiter's good houses. If you read our article on Jupiter entering Leo, you will notice that the favourable signs swap: those who gained from Jupiter in Leo usually have it in a quieter house now, and the other way round.
Aries Moon (Mesha). Jupiter is in your 4th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Home, property and family need steady attention; avoid large commitments on the house until Jupiter moves on in June.
Taurus Moon (Vrishabha). Jupiter is in your 3rd house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Progress comes from your own effort, writing and short journeys rather than from luck; keep at it patiently.
Gemini Moon (Mithuna). Jupiter is in your 2nd house, a favourable house for Jupiter. Savings, family harmony and gentle speech are supported; a good time to consolidate.
Cancer Moon (Karka). Jupiter is in your 1st house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses, though it is exalted in your own sign. You may feel more confident and noticed; look after health and keep promises realistic.
Leo Moon (Simha). Jupiter is in your 12th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Expenses, travel and retreat take focus; charity, study and rest suit the months before Jupiter returns to your sign in June.
Virgo Moon (Kanya). Jupiter is in your 11th house, a favourable house for Jupiter. Gains, recognition from friends and progress on long-held goals are supported.
Libra Moon (Tula). Jupiter is in your 10th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Work brings responsibility before reward; patience and ethical dealing serve you.
Scorpio Moon (Vrishchika). Jupiter is in your 9th house, a favourable house for Jupiter. Teachers, higher study, travel and faith are favoured; advice from elders is worth taking.
Sagittarius Moon (Dhanu). Jupiter is in your 8th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. A reflective phase: avoid risky loans and look after your health.
Capricorn Moon (Makara). Jupiter is in your 7th house, a favourable house for Jupiter. Partnerships, marriage talks and contracts are supported.
Aquarius Moon (Kumbha). Jupiter is in your 6th house, which is not one of Jupiter's favourable houses. Daily routines, health and debts need careful handling; steady service brings results.
Pisces Moon (Meena). Jupiter is in your 5th house, a favourable house for Jupiter, and it is your sign's lord. Children, creativity, study and devotion are well supported.
Observances
Thursday is Jupiter's day in the tradition. The site's reference lists the mantra "Om Gurave Namah", the beej mantra "Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namaha" (108 times on Thursday mornings), worship of Lord Vishnu or Brihaspati with turmeric and yellow flowers, and gifts of turmeric, gram dal or yellow cloth. Its lifestyle advice is to pursue knowledge and ethics and to mentor others. The yellow sapphire belongs to Jupiter, but whether it suits you is a question about your own chart, which the remedies page answers from Jupiter's strength and lordship.
